Images and geotargeting

I cannot tell you how many websites I come across that are using jpg images with text inside of them. Big loss in SEO points! When designing a website be sure to type business addresses into the coding of the website. My favorite practice is to put a footer at the bottom of every page that contains the business name, full address, and telephone number. This gives every page on the website geo-targeted keywords (i.e. zip code, city, telephone number). If your website has this issue correct it now!

Now…

Some of you may have heard about Google’s new software that can identify words in photos. As far as I know this is not part of the algorithm yet. Even still, the more geo-targeted keywords the better. Try adding a list of areas serviced.

Google Tags Retired?

Google Tags Retired

I have been receiving notices that Google Tags has been retired for all users as of April 29, 2011. Data will be available in your Google Places accounts until the end of May 2011 so make sure you record what you need to. Billing history will be available until July 31st, 2011.

As far as the reason goes, I am unsure. Seems that they have replaced it with Google Boost. You can call 877-503-0841 Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm to redeem your credit.

SEO Introduction

What is SEO?

SEO is an acronym that stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is a combination many important seo factors. You can hire a SEO firm or try your hand at it yourself. The term organic SEO refers getting placement on search without paying for sponsored links.

How does it work?

In order to successfully raise your rank on Google and achieve more traffic to your website there are two separate actions need to occur.

The first action that needs to take place is the optimization on your webpage. To achieve this you must increase the relativity of keywords, update meta tags, and rewrite code. These techniques make your website seem richer to search engines. Don’t be alarmed! There are plenty of guides on how to edit the coding of your website if you do not have a basic knowledge of HTML and website hosting. Only once all of these are completed to their fullest should you begin to market your website.

The next step in the process is to market your website. Marketing is performed by many without the recollection that they are even doing it. When you think of marketing, think advertisements. So the goal is to communicate publically to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume more of a particular brand of product or service. With the availability of social networks, internet marketing has changed drastically. It is open for anyone who knows how to simply ‘tweet’ or change their status. The largest part of driving consumers to your website is *incoming links.

*Incoming Links – “or Backlinks (or back-links [UK]) are incoming links to a website or web page. Inbound links were originally important (prior to the emergence of search engines) as a primary means of web navigation; today their significance lies in search engine optimization (SEO). The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (though other measures, such as PageRank, are likely to be more important).” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlink
